Feeding your CNS
Many are aware of your bodies need for proteins, carbs, fats, vitamins and minerals, and eat and supplement to those needs for tissue growth/repair, and energy requirements.
But there are some very important needs for health and further athletic and training depletions that are sometimes not in the forefront of our nutritional plans.
One of these "needs" is feeding your CNS. Every and I mean EVERY muscle action depends on the CNS/PNS (Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System) to function properly.
Motor activation of muscles occurs due to an Electrochemical process. That is simply, that Chemicals create and carry an Electrical message to your muscles. This message begins with a Command message in the brain, which also uses an Electrochemical means to "send" and "receive" messages and information.
It must be obvious that these "chemical messengers" known as Neurotransmitters are used for their purpose and then must be "replaced and or replenished" as their metabolic wastes are carried away after their use.
While eating a health diet will provide a normal amount of these substrates, if you train in a manner that consumes or uses them at a high rate, it is wise to pay attention and even supplement with concentrated nutrients that help optimize the levels in you body available.
Neurotransmitters, are simply those compounds that cause the transmission of Neural (nerve) messages. In addition to functions like muscle activation, these Neurochemicals are also responsible for mental alertness, mood, and all sensory messages returned to the brain.
Compounds like Dopamine and Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and even Endorphins are created from or enhanced by these raw materials.
If you are familiar with some of my programs and applications, you might know that I like to suggest HIGH INTENSITY applications, as well as some programs with VERY HIGH INTENSITY reps for as many as 30 rather quick reps with large loads.
Reps of such intensity require higher production and utilization of Neurotransmitters, and if you are slightly deficient in these compounds then your performance will suffer. I have found that specific attention paid to ingesting CERTAIN compounds will help in both the availability and the replenishment cycle to a great advantage.
One such product, which I have used successfully now for over 25 years is offered by one of my AFFILIATES - Life Extension Foundation. It is a product called BLAST, and is produced by a fellow by the name of Durk Pearson. If that name is familiar, it is because Pearson wrote a best selling book many years ago called LIFE EXTENSION.
He is a brilliant (maybe too much so) scientist Chemistry and Human Biology, who studied at MIT and later UCLA.
Although he is more than a little "wacky" he has discovered and produced some amazing things in the world of nutritional supplements.
In any event, his product BLAST and also a couple other versions (FAST BLAST) provide you with an exceptional combination of nutrients that when ingested regularly and particularly PRE-WORKOUT will help you perform at a higher level that without the products.
The two "key" compounds in these products are Phenylalanine and Taurine. Taurine is the most common ingredient in most popular energy drinks (like RED BULL).
However these Life Extensions Foundation Products have been formulated to have what I perceive as a more "synergistic" effect, than ANY of the "energy drinks" with Taurine alone. I have tried blending these and the other ingredients of the product myself and they simply do not work as well as the product itself. In fact they don't seem to have any effect at all when I blend them.
So I my only choice is to recommend the actual product itself. This is what I use.
To be sure the effects are not subtle, but they are not going to skyrocket you to Studsville in one workout, but YOU WILL FEEL the difference.
This product is mixed as a DRINK with cold water, (tastes like ice tea) and I suggest you drink a glass late morning, and another 30 minutes before training. Your whole day, as well as your workout may improve significantly depending on how your present levels of these compounds are.
When you are going for 20 rep squats, and other high reps sets you will STILL be in incredible pain (the good type) but the REPS will just HAPPEN where before you "locked up".
