Thought I might start a list of Acronyms that are used in various ways relating to Strength Training and Conditioning
RFD = Rate of Force Development SSC = Stretch Shortening Cycle TUL = Time Under Load TUT = Time Under Tension TSM = Torso Stabilization Mechanism HIT = High Intensity Training HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training SS = Super Slow SS = Super Set SSTF = Single Set To Failure STF = Set To Failure NTF = Not To Failure MSTF = Multi-Set To Failure NSCA - National Strength and Conditioning Association MMMT = Momentary Maximum Muscle Tension MT = Maximum Tension RM = Rep Maximum PR = Personal Record CSA = Cross Sectional Area ROM = Range Of Motion FROM = Full Range Of Motion PROM = Partial Range Of Motion DL = Deadlift SLDL = Stiff or Straight Legged DeadLift LE = Leg Extension LC = Leg Curl LP = Leg Press BP = Bench Press BB = Barbell DB = Dumbbell BTNP = Behind The Neck Press OL = Olympic Lifting C&J = Clean and Jerk Bwt = Bodyweight DOMS = Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness CV = CardioVascular CR = CardioRespiratory CNS = Central Nervous System PNS = Peripheral Nervous System PHA = Peripheral Heart Action EIMD = Exercise Induced Muscle Damage PS = Purposely Slow VS Volitionally Slow PF = Purposely Fast VF = Volitionally Fast CAT Compensatory Accleration Training

Hey John
Tons of great info here on your board mate, thought it about time I joined up and contributed.
This list is great, nice work! SSC is not one I am too familliar with, I wonder when you have some time, if you'd mind explaining a little more of the Stretch Shortening Cycle?
Thx!

SSC is not one I am too familliar with, I wonder when you have some time, if you'd mind explaining a little more of the Stretch Shortening Cycle? Thx! Hi Natural1, Good to have you on board. The SSC or Stretch Shortening Cycle, is the sum of Biomechanical actions and forces that engage during the latter portions of the eccentric action, that cause the muscle/joint to load and utilize the the elastic reactions to the braking forces of the eccentric action and "return" those forces to the concentric action that follows. These actions occur in a seamless fashion and for a short period of time, there are static, eccentric and concentric actions occuring simultaneously in different fibers. It is thought that the exact moment of the eccentric/static transition to concentric occurs (when observing the function as a joint movment) that the greatest muscle tension is realized. So in fact it is a STRETCH (eccentric action) transitioning to a SHORTENING (concentric action) CYCLE. When trained progressively this CYCLE will produce and aid in the production of RFD (Rate of Force Development)
